Really Big News from Peggy Williams-Smith
Well, it doesn't get much better than National Geographic naming Milwaukee one of the top 25 places in the world for travel in 2023 and telling their 13 million monthly readers what an awesome community we have. This prestigious recognition comes from one of the most respected voices in travel that reaches audiences around the world and I have no doubt will benefit Milwaukee in 2023 and beyond
I want to shout out my communications team led by Communications Director Claire Koenig, who brought the National Geographic writer of this piece here last summer and gave him a whirlwind tour. From the Menomonee Valley, to Burnham Park, Walker's Point, East Town, downtown, Bronzeville, and beyond, Claire showed him our Milwaukee, one that is beautiful, diverse and bursting with amazing people and experiences.
So, what comes next after gaining one of the most respected accolades in the travel sphere? To start, I encourage all of you to share the story with friends, neighbors and colleagues as much as you can. Use it as an excuse to text that sibling who lives out of state or that friend who hasn't visited in a while. Tell those remote coworkers it's time for a team-building event in Milwaukee, or use it to tell your hobby group it's time to host your next meeting right here.
Whatever you do, I hope we can all use this story within our own networks to be loud and proud ambassadors for our city.
Our team will be promoting this recognition through paid marketing platforms including billboards, print ads and an array of digital and social channels. Rest assured that we will squeeze this opportunity for all it's worth.
